Inspired by Nature, the Seasons, my garden, flora, fauna, medieval art and iconography, illuminated manuscripts, antique botanicals, folklore and myth. I love to draw, paint and sculpt in miniature...
I studied Fine Art and Illustration, received my BFA from The Rhode Island School of Design and worked as a graphic designer for 15 years while painting in my spare time. In 2010, I created Gwydion's Garden and my online shop as a way to focus and fuel my creativity. This ongoing journey has brought me to incorporate jewelry making - mostly self-taught - into my creative repertoire.
Woodland Botanical Icon paintings and pendants - Painting on Capiz Shell - With my latest work, the iridescent, sometimes translucent, sometimes reflective effect of the capiz shell 'canvas' is truly one-of-a-kind. Creating small works of art with the mixed media of clay, paint and shell provides the kind of tactility and unique end result that compels me to make more and more.
Hand Sculpted Jewelry - I like to think that each little vignette that I carve and sculpt from clay is pulled from the illuminated margins of old manuscripts. Little embellished "jewels" to wear and tell a story like an illustrated detail from a book. Every little pictorial sculpture is basically a scene that I've witnessed in my own garden.
Living in the countryside of beautiful Bucks County, Pennsylvania, the surrounding landscape and wildlife are and endless inspiration! ✥
